Our Programs Include:

Main Stage Troupe
Detour has traditionally produced two musicals a year with our main stage troupe.  Each production works from an actor base of 40+ participants.

Up and Coming Troupe
After each Main Stage production, we receive many phone calls from families asking if their family member with special needs can join Detour. We have decided that all new actors must have some drama experience or take one of our drama skills classes before joining our Main Stage Troupe. We have added a new program, the Up and Coming Troupe, to fill this need.

Summer Skills Workshops
In the summer of 2016 we held our third group of Summer Skills Workshops for 20-30 actors. The participants met on Monday and Thursday afternoons for 5 weeks to focus on learning and improving singing, dancing and movement. Each week explored 4-6 songs from a different Broadway musical and included specific skill work that related to each musical.

Detour on Tour
Our traveling troupe takes the message and heart of Detour on the road. We have converted one of our past productions into a travelling show.  Detour on Tour started several years ago and performs in schools, work programs and senior communities. Currently Detour on Tour is on hold as we seek a funding for this program.

In Addition

  • We are proud to be an educational partner of The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.
  • We serve as a resource to the community--both to support those who want to work in the field of arts and disability, and to those who are eager to celebrate the talent, creativity and artistic potential of all people.
  • We consult with others who want to start similar programs in other parts of the country, and who want to gain a deeper understanding of disabilities, accessibility and inclusion.
